Work ON--Not Just IN--Your Business
What I’m Thinking About: Cracking Open the Book
I can’t tell you how many times I sat down with a book, article or a group of people and my first thought was, “I can’t learn anything from this. Why bother or waste my time?” But after a chapter, paragraphs or minutes, my attitude shifted to, “I better take notes. This is some good stuff!”
We have all heard the saying “Never judge a book by its cover,” and that’s wise counsel. You never know what you might gain by opening up the book and devouring some great ideas! We can learn from books with great business ideas or people with great business ideas, but we have to crack open the cover to know what’s inside.
Why You Might Be Thinking About This: You Want to Work on Your Business
There are countless business books because there are countless ways to do business. But all businesses run best when they use foundational systems and processes, and actions which create repeatability, sustainability and scalability.
Business owners need to take the time to develop the best and brightest business systems, operated by people with good old common sense.
Business owners need to work ON the business, not just IN the business. We need to take time to think, study, reflect, plan, assess, learn new ways of doing, and establish systems and processes.
Why It’s Worth Thinking About: Exceptional Systems + Average People = Business Success
Michael Gerber, author of The E Myth: Why Most Businesses Fail and What to Do About It, says that “systems run the business, people run the systems!” Businesses need exceptional systems and processes run by average people.
Wow! Now that’s a paradigm shift. What if you took time to work ON the business in addition to working IN the business, taking steps to create systems for business fundamentals: hiring, performance evaluations, promotions, marketing, sales, customer service and support, change management, strategic planning and individual and organizational goal setting? Would teams have better focus on the mission, bottom line and employee growth?
And that’s what the Business Choreographers of The Sandbox Group can help you do--get the right systems in place to create business success. We are here for when you are ready to 'crack open the book' and start learning how to improve your business systems.
How are your business systems and processes working right now? Does your work WORK?
